Barbecue grill
for PhotoImpact v.6
Let's barbecue!
1.Open a 400x400 canvas in the workspace; draw a 3D round ellipse, color red(or whatever color you want your grill to be).
2.Click away from the ellipse to de-activate or hit the space bar.
Draw a 3D, black, narrow ellipse almost as wide as the red one; slide the border all the way down to 1.
3.Right-click and duplicate the small ellipse;change the color to red and make it 3D pipe. Align it over the black ellipse.
4.Shift-click the two small ellipses; merge as single object;
Right-click and duplicate; place the second small ellipse under the first one.
5.Use the Eraser tool to remove the parts on either side of the small ellipses.
6. Your image should look like this:
7.Click away from the image to de-activate.
Draw a small, rounded rectangle(1);3D pipe, color red(2).
Use the Transform tool, Perspective to make the top slightly smaller(3).
8.Duplicate 2 times; send all three to the back and place like this:
9. Now for the legs.
Draw the three images as below:
10. Place them as in the picture below, using the Transform tool to rotate the two outside legs approx. 10 degrees in either direction; send all three to the back.
11. Go to Custom shape, scroll down to Triangle.
12. Draw a small black, 3D pipe triangle.
13. Use the Transform tool, Resize, to make the triangle fit inside the 3 legs.
14. Now let's do the grill.
Draw a wide, narrow 3D pipe ellipse.
15. Go to the Easy Palette and use this preset:
16. Click away from the ellipse to de-activate.
Go to Custom shape and scroll down to Horizontal lines; click OK.
17. After you have drawn the Horizontal line shape, click away from it to de-activate; draw a tall, narrow rectangle approx. the same height; right-click and duplicate.
18. Shift-click on all three bars; right-click and merge as single object.
Use the Transform too, Resize, to make the image fit inside the ellipse as close as you can.
19.Use the Eraser tool with a setting of about 6 to carefully remove any parts of the bars that are outside the ellipse. You might want to use the Zoom tool and zoom in close to do this part.
20. Move the grill to the bottom black ellipse. Resize to fit, if necessary.
21. Now we'll do the vent on top of the barbecue grill.
Using the same silver preset as before, draw a small 3D round circle; slide the border down to about 1.
22. In the drop-down box, click on Continue draw.
23. Draw a small circle inside the larger one(1); click on the Path Edit
tool(2); move your mouse over the small circle till the the cursor turns into a hand; right-click and in the drop-down box, choose Duplicate path(3); do this twice.
Hold the mouse over one of the circles until it turns to a hand again; left-click and hold; the circle will turn into a purple box. Drag the box into position and release. Do this for all 3 circles(4).
24. When you get the 3 circles positioned, go to the drop-down box and choose 3D round. You should now have a circle with 3 holes on it.
25. Right-click on the circle and duplicate(1); change the top circle to 3D pipe from the drop-down menu(2); position the 3D pipe over the circle, matching it up over the edges and the holes(3).
Now draw a small rectangle and send it to the back of the circle(4).
Shift-click on all 3 objects and merge as single object.
26. Use the Transform tool to make the vent smaller; rotate it approx. 10 degress to the left and place in on the top of the grill.
27.Draw a small rounded rectangle; apply a wood preset.
Right-click and choose Shadow. When the pop-up menu opens, accept the default setting. Go to Object, Split shadow; move the shadow directly behind the handle to make it look as if it is standing out from the grill.
Right-click anywhere on the grill; in the drop-down box choose Select all objects; right-click and merge as single object.
All done!
You might want to use the Burn tool to darken it in places and the Retouch-Dodge tool to make some highlights.
Parts of this method can also be used to make fancy eggs...just make the first ellipse a little longer for an egg.
